From Latin fair, a fair is a economic, social or cultural event that it may be established or temporary, and that it can take place at a fixed location or be developed on an itinerant basis. The fairs are usually dedicated to a specific topic or have a common purpose.
A fair can be a market which is mounted in a public space on certain designated days. Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages , when the merchants gathered at the gates of the city walls to trade their products during several days. These fairs were organized in coincidence with the local party , under the invocation of a patron saint.
A similar use of the concept is maintained these days, to name the installation of stalls in a square or other public space. For example: “Tomorrow the fair arrives in the neighborhood: I will take advantage to buy fruits and vegetables”, “Juan bought a history book at the park fair”.
It is known as fair, on the other hand, at set of recreational facilities which are installed on the occasion of certain parties. Circuses, carousels and candy stalls are usually part of these fairs: “When I was a kid, I loved the fairs since I spent hours and hours playing”, “Next week they will install a fair with a beautiful carousel”.
In this sense, we should highlight that one of the most important events of this type takes place in Spain. We are referring to the April Fair in Seville, where in a very large area of the city, different types of attractions are installed for the enjoyment of all children and adults.
But in it perhaps the most significant area is where a multitude of booths stand. In this way, the Sevillians and the numerous visitors who arrive in the city have the opportunity in them not only to dance the most traditional music but also to taste the most exquisite dishes and products of the land.
All this without forgetting that it becomes another significant element of the April Fair that many people come riding on horses and horse cars dressed in the corresponding short suits for them and flamenco dresses for them.
The fairs are also facilities where products from a single commercial or industrial sector are exposed for promotion and sale . It is possible, therefore, to talk about book Fair , shoe fair or other type of fair.
